Blending in. Fall season with the 992 GT3RS
Autumn, the BEST season of the year for us photographers. The bright, vibrant colours in the trees are just breath taking and really create a beautiful atmosphere to our images. This is by far my favourite project i’ve worked on yet, shooting an insane car in the autumn season with perfect foggy conditions has been on my bucket list for years, now I can finally cross it off the list.
Lets go from the start.
Mr JWW’s Porsche 992 GT3 RS has finally been delivered, what a unique spec it is too. Coated in the unique Gulf Orange paired with the full Weissach package too, a must have for these cars especially for the track.
A new car on the Mr JWW channel means a new purpose. One of the best bits of James’s channel is that each car he owns tells its own story and has a purpose on the channel as well as his passion. With the new car being a GT3 RS what better purpose to have for it than the track, especially the Nurburgring. Literally what this car is built for!
First stop. AR Exclusive Car Care in Glasgow, one of Scotlands best PPF and detailing experts. I’ve worked with AR for a good while now and I have the pleasure of working on some insane projects and cars with them. My favourite part about working with them is being able to see and capture the full before to after process, from a customer dropping their new car off, the first wash, to the PPF install to then shooting the car all finished and the happy customer collecting their pride and joy knowing its all protected and ready for some back road driving!
PPF is essential for these expensive cars, especially for track days. Not only does it protect the cars paint but gives the driver more confidence to have more fun without the worry of chips and scratches. As this cars main home will be the Nurburgring, it’s better safe than sorry to get it all ready for the Green Hell.
The boys Irfan and Scott from AR did a perfect job as always. You wouldn’t be able to tell there is PPF on the car!
I love shooting work for AR, getting into the finer details showcasing the process of PPF. Helps to show off the quality and hard work that goes into each car. This is where my love for story telling in photography comes out, starting with the car being delivered to getting washed then starting to lay the PPF on the panels then the final wipe down and seeing the customers reaction.
I managed to snap a few pictures of the car fully finished before James came to collect. Also gave my self a chance to get to grips with the Gulf Orange, a colour that looks completely different through the camera screens to the human eye. My go to lens for shooting the finished cars at AR is the 35mm f1.8, the perfect lens for stills and especially the closer details showcasing different panels of the car.
This is where I got some time to really check out this car and I must say, how is this thing road legal! The aero, the stance, the presence and THAT WING. Such an insane car from Porsche, they really nailed it from all aspects. Can’t wait to see this thing perform on track.
5 Days of wash, Prep, PPF installing and filming each step later it was finally time for James to come and see the car. I got myself behind second camera with Yorkie filming footage of James’s reaction, reflecting through the PPF process with Irfan from AR and discussing the plans for the car. I enjoyed every moment of filming, really made me appreciate the efforts that go into creating these YouTube Videos from the idea and script to filming and editing. I can understand the addictive enjoyment of thinking creating and accomplishing, similar to my own photography and content creation.
We then made our way from Glasgow to Porsche Centre Perth to get some footage of the car at the dealership and chat to the staff about their thoughts on the car.
Behind the scenes at Porsche Centre Perth
After getting the car up on the ramp, one of Porsche Perth’s technicians, Cameron Nicol walked us through all the technical specs of the GT3 RS. Learning about the technology and aero designs that go into this complex car. A great chance to get to know the car and understand how it works which played a vital role in Jame’s first video on the cars new series.
Getting into the fine details, snapping a few pictures and capturing b-roll of the unique sculptures on this car was a really amazing experience. Something you don’t get to do very often.
We spent a couple days reviewing the clips and some editing while waiting for some dry ish weather, which in Scotland as we know is pretty rare. However, I absolutely love shooting these types of cars in the rain and especially autumn season as we now all know. One step closer to completing that bucket list photoshoot…
We decided to go for it and the shooting conditions we got were perfect (for me anyway) maybe not the best weather to be driving your brand new GT3 RS! First few shots of the day were James’s piece to camera. We set up some cameras inside and outside the car, got James mic’d up and off he went for a drive. With that being successful we moved onto the tracking shots. After getting a few shots with the car rig mounted set up I wanted in on the action. I got some of my best rolling shots yet, thousands of spray and pray pictures and plenty of B roll for the YouTube Video.
I love the moody atmosphere the Autumn season brings!
Now, onto the most majestic and magical photography conditions i’ve ever experienced. It’s rainy and foggy which really continued to bring out the vibrant moody Autumn atmosphere. We spent a good couple of hours at this location playing around with the angles and some framing with the trees too.
Even James had his camera out!
Straight home into the edits. I kept these edits minimal with minor exposure adjustments and some masking, no adjustment to colours were needed as they were perfect straight out the camera! Working on my preset packs which will be coming soon.
Full series live on myself and the @mrjww Instagram accounts. Still can’t quite get my head round how perfect this shoot was, definitely my favourite shots to date! From the colours to the composition and location all just worked so well together. All of these shots were shot on my Sony A7iii paired with my 35mm f1.4 which was particularly great for the detail shots.
Had to snap a few pictures of James and his new car!
James’s new series is live on his Youtube channel linked below. An exciting new chapter for the channel and the new car.
Thrilled to have been involved with the launch and excited for the journey of the Sub 7 series!
Thank you to @ar_exlusive_car_care - @mrjww - @iamyorkie and Thanks to my followers for the love and support on this project. One to remember!
